    EASTON, Md. – May 4, 2026 – Tred Avon Players (TAP) invites seasoned performers and those new to the stage to audition for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, a high-energy musical comedy with music and lyrics by David Yazbek and book by Jeffrey Lane, directed by JW Ruth. Performances will take place August 13–23 at the Oxford Community Center.
    AUDITION DATES AND TIMES ● Sunday, May 17, 2-5 pm ● Wednesday, May 20, 6-8 pm ● Thursday, May 21, 6-8 pm Actors may be asked to attend a callback.

    SUMMARY Based on the popular 1988 film, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a stylish, laugh-out-loud musical set on the glamorous French Riviera. The story follows two con men—one refined and sophisticated, the other more brash and scrappy—who compete to swindle a wealthy heiress out of her fortune. What begins as a friendly wager quickly escalates into a hilarious battle of wits, deception, and unexpected romance, filled with dazzling musical numbers and outrageous twists.
    CASTING TAP welcomes actors of all experience levels to audition. People of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds are encouraged to participate. Due to copyright requirements, character genders will remain as written.
    CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
    ● LAWRENCE JAMESON: Male, 40–60. A suave, sophisticated British con artist who preys on wealthy women. Polished, charming, and always in control. Strong singer.
    ● FREDDY BENSON: Male, 20–40. An energetic, cocky American con man with a big personality and questionable charm. Highly physical comedic role. Strong singer and mover.
    ● CHRISTINE COLGATE: Female, 20–40. An apparently naïve American heiress with a sweet demeanor and surprising depth. Strong singer with comedic timing.
    ● ANDRE THIBAULT: Male, 30–60. Lawrence’s loyal and slightly exasperated French assistant. Provides dry humor and steady support.
    ● MURIEL EUBANKS: Female, 40–70. A wealthy, flamboyant American socialite with a big personality and presence. Strong comedic role.
    ● ENSEMBLE: Various ages and types. Riviera locals, tourists, and featured roles. Strong singers and movers needed.
    WHAT TO PREPARE Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Also, be prepared to sing a verse and chorus of a song of your choice. Bring either sheet music (an accompanist will be provided) or a backing track.
