• SSPP HS Awarded Senior AP Honor Roll

  • Saints Peter & Paul High School (SSPP) was named to the National Advanced Placement (AP) Senior Honor Roll.  The AP Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results and broadening participation for students.

Schools can earn the Honor Roll recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing their school’s college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.  The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction:  Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.  SSPP earned a valued Gold Level this year.

AP tests are scored on a scale of 1 to 5, combining points from computer-graded multiple-choice and human-graded free-response sections (essays, problems, projects) into a composite score, then statistically converting it to the final 1-5 scale, with higher scores indicating greater college-level mastery, and many colleges granting credit for scores of 3 or above.

SSPP is the only Catholic College Preparatory School on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, welcoming students from Maryland and Delaware.  Principal Scott Wilson shared, “We are incredibly proud of our students and faculty for earning SSPP a Gold Level distinction on the AP School Honor Roll. This achievement reflects our commitment to academic excellence and the dedication of our entire school community.”

College Board’s Advanced Placement Program enables students to pursue college-level studies, with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both, while still in high school.  Through AP courses, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue; skills that prepare them for college and beyond.  Taking AP courses demonstrates to college admissions officers that students have sought the most challenging curriculum available to them, and research indicates that students who score a 3 or higher on an AP Exam typically experience greater academic success in college and are more likely to earn a college degree than non-AP students.

SSPP currently offers 14 AP courses, including courses in English, Art, Mathematics, Social Studies, World Languages, and Science. For more information, contact the school counselor, Kristi King, at kking@ssppeaston.org.
