Talbot Humane Joins Maryland 3000 Challenge to Help More Homeless Pets Find Loving Homes
Every pet adoption changes two lives.
For the family welcoming a new companion, it's the beginning of a lasting bond. For the pet leaving the shelter, it's a second chance. And for the next homeless animal waiting for help, it creates space for hope.
Throughout August, Talbot Humane is joining nearly 20 animal shelters across Maryland in the Maryland 3000 Adoption Challenge, waiving adoption fees for dogs and cats as part of a statewide effort to place at least 3,000 homeless pets into loving homes. The month-long initiative is coordinated through the Baltimore Animal Welfare Alliance and brings together shelters committed to finding homes while easing overcrowding across Maryland.
Although adoption fees are waived, Talbot Humane's normal adoption process remains in place to ensure every pet is matched with the right family. Animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and receive veterinary care before adoption, with staff members helping prospective adopters find the companion best suited to their home and lifestyle.
“Every adoption creates a ripple effect,” said Patty Crankshaw-Quimby, CAWA, executive director of Talbot Humane. “When a pet leaves our shelter for a loving home, we immediately have room to help another animal in need. This challenge isn't simply about waiving fees. It's about connecting people and pets while giving more animals the opportunity for a brighter future.”
Like shelters across the nation, Talbot Humane continues to see increased demand for animal welfare services as more pets enter shelters and stay longer before finding permanent homes.
Community adoption plays an essential role in ensuring the organization can continue providing lifesaving care, reunite lost pets with their families, and offer support that helps keep people and pets together whenever possible.
Talbot Humane also encourages community members to visit participating Eastern Shore shelters, including Animal Care Shelter for Kent County, Caroline County Humane Society, and Queen Anne's County Animal Services. Every adoption, regardless of where it occurs, helps strengthen Maryland's collective effort to save more lives.
Originally launched more than a decade ago, the Maryland 3000 challenge has grown into one of the state's largest collaborative animal welfare initiatives. Last year, participating shelters surpassed the campaign's goal, placing more than 3,100 pets into new homes. Organizers hope to build on that momentum again this year.
Community members are encouraged to visit Talbot Humane throughout August to meet adoptable dogs and cats ready for their next chapter.
