Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence to Launch “Miles That Matter” with Ribbon Cutting Event
Easton, MD — March 23 — The Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence (MSCFV) invites members of the press, local officials, and community members to attend a 9:00 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, March 28, at the Easton YMCA, 202 Peachblossom Road, to officially launch the inaugural Miles That Matter event.
Inspired by the AARP Ethels, Miles That Matter brings people together in a fun, active way while supporting survivors of domestic violence across the Mid-Shore region. It is a flexible, community-wide event across the Eastern Shore where participants may walk, run, bike, swim, or use a treadmill at a location of their choice.
The ribbon cutting, held in partnership with the Talbot Chamber of Commerce and the AARP Ethels, will kick off a day dedicated to raising awareness and funds for survivors in Caroline, Dorchester, Talbot, Queen Anne’s, and Kent counties. Immediately following the ceremony, MSCFV staff and leadership will “go any distance” with participants outside, and YMCA members may use the gym.
Registrants can pick up a Miles That Matter bib number and join others for an outdoor workout after the ribbon cutting at the YMCA, and two other locations, Snap Fitness Crofton and Snap Fitness Annapolis, will provide access to anyone who would like to use the gym that day.
With a $10 minimum donation, every mile represents walking in the shoes of a survivor—honoring strength, resilience, and the ongoing journey toward safety and healing.
“Miles That Matter is more than a day of movement — it’s a visible demonstration that our community stands with survivors. Every step raises awareness, funds critical services, and reminds survivors that they are not alone,” said Jeanne Yeager, Executive Director of MSCFV.
The AARP Ethels, known for promoting healthy aging, positivity, and community engagement through fun fitness activities, inspired the collaboration.
