On Saturday, April 27, 2019, we will celebrate the 25th Annual Oxford Day. Our committee, town businesses and organizations are all busy planning a great family-centered day of activities. Plan to attend, relax, walk about and enjoy the day.
Start the day off with the Hospice Memorial Walk, grab breakfast to go at Town Park, enter the canine members of your family in the Dog Walk and Dog Show. Bring the young children to Family Hour for games, prizes and more. The Parade starts at 11 and marches right along Morris Street. Watch for the piper who leads off an assortment of floats, fire engines, bands, old cars, walkers and animals—it’s always uniquely Oxford!
Be sure to visit Town Park all afternoon for food, booths, Chesapeake Bay information, art and more while you are entertained with live music by that Eastern Shore favorite, “Bird Dog and the Road Kings”.
If you want to experience Oxford from the water and learn more about the historic oyster industry, sign up for a free ride on the skipjack “Nathan of Dorchester”. Oxford Day marks the opening of the season for the Oxford Bellevue Ferry which has been in existence since 1683!
Your hunger can be satisfied at many venues around town including, of course, our fine restaurants, and also booths in Town Park and Causeway Park, our churches and the Oxford Market. Please check the schedule for more details and activities.
There will be designated parking areas and shuttle van service is available throughout the day.
Be aware that Morris Street and some side streets will be closed to traffic before and during the Parade, from 10:15-noon. Allow extra time to reach Oxford and for moving about town. Residents should plan their days with the expectation of delays in driving.
For a brief introduction to Oxford Day, you are invited to watch this video. The music is “Chicken Fried” written by Zac Brown and performed by the US Navy Band “Country Current” at an earlier Oxford Day.
IF IT RAINS: Oxford Day is a rain or shine event. Please refer to the Schedule for the rain plan.
