    Art Gallery Attendant The Academy Art Museum is currently seeking a polite and observant individual to assist in the protection of the museum’s collection and create a positive visitor experience. Essential Duties: • Maintains oversight of the gallery and visiting public, monitors interactions to ensure the safety and security of the artwork and exhibition materials. • Patrols assigned galleries for theft, vandalism, and unruly behavior among visitors. Reports suspicious activity to managers/supervisors, as necessary. • Informs visitors of gallery rules such as not touching works of art in a kind and friendly manner. • Welcomes visitors into exhibition spaces and provides information about the exhibition, if requested. Knowledge and Skills: • A candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, be dependable, maintain a professional attitude, and be able to responsibly follow procedures. • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people in a variety of situations. • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, squat, stoop, climb ladders, walk up and down stairs, and lift up to 30 pounds. Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required • Interest in art and/or museums • Must be able to work occasional hours Tues – Thurs & Sat - Sun 10am-4pm / Fri 10am-7pm and occasional evenings Rate: $12.50/hr. Past exhibitions have featured artists such as James Turrell, Robert Rauschenberg, Mark Rothko, Pat Steir and Richard Diebenkorn. The permanent collection focuses on works on paper by American and European artists from four centuries. Arts educational programs range from life drawing to cocktail hour concerts, lectures, and special art events, as well as a Craft Show. AAM also provides arts education to public and private school children from the region and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.
